We put in under the old Route 66 bridge in Lexington, and took out at the County Hwy 29 bridge on the west edge of the Parklands Foundation's Merwin Nature Preserve. There were 4 trees laying across the river between 66 and PJ Keller Highway, but they were really easy to get over. Neither put-in or take-out point were easily accessed. We had to carry the canoes a ways and fight some muddy banks . We parked at a sign that said "Canoe Access" at the nature preserve, but we never found any decent access point near the car pull out.

We got the canoe out just before a big thunderstorm hit, but we had to tie it back on the car in the rain. At least we got some of the bud washed off of us.

We saw a Northern water snake, a beaver, and a couple of muskrats along the way. We also saw a Great blue heron, a kingfisher, some goldfinches, and several large birds of prey that stayed a little too hidden to be identified. More
